Selling a Technical Product Category to a Non-Technical Buyer

Superklick Velbus sells smart automation control for lighting, heating, blinds and more, built on a professionally wired system with no central hub or internet dependency. We built an e-commerce catalogue that makes a genuinely technical product category approachable for a homeowner who has never installed a smart system before.

Context

Selling Reliability Against Simpler-Sounding Competitors

Consumer smart-home products increasingly market themselves as effortless app-based setups. Velbus's wired, hub-free architecture is more reliable long-term, but needs to be sold on its own terms rather than compared feature-for-feature.

We designed an e-commerce catalogue that leads with plain-language reliability benefits, then lets product categories and packaged 'solutions by space' carry the more technical detail for buyers ready for it.

Superklick Velbus goal

Goal

Selling Both Individual Products and Packaged Solutions

The goal was to serve two different buyers on one catalogue: someone who knows exactly which switch or sensor they need, and someone who wants a packaged 'smart living room' or 'smart office suite' solution.

A four-step 'How It Works' section demystifies installation for first-time buyers, sitting alongside clean, spec-forward product cards for buyers who already know the category.

Superklick Velbus challenge

Challenge

Making a Wired, No-Hub System Sound Simple, Not Complicated

Velbus's key differentiators - no central hub, no internet dependency, no vendor lock-in - are genuine technical advantages, but explaining them risks making the system sound more complicated than app-based competitors.

The solution translated each technical advantage into a plain-language feature badge (Simple, Flexible, No Central Hub, Affordable Smart Price) directly under the hero, before any technical product detail appears.

Process

Making a Technical Product Category Approachable by Structure

The build process started with how Superklick Velbus's products are actually bought - as individual components or as packaged room/house solutions - and structured the WooCommerce catalogue around that split from the outset.

Product and category pages were tested against both a technical buyer who knows exactly what they want and a non-technical one who needs the packaged-solution path, before the storefront was finalised.

Technology

A WordPress Storefront for a Technical Product Category

A custom WordPress e-commerce build with structured product categories and bundled 'solution' packages, so browsing works whether a visitor wants one dimmer switch or a whole-house package.

Built with a straightforward quote-request flow rather than a full checkout, matching how a considered, professionally-installed purchase like this actually gets bought.

Impact

A Catalogue That Makes a Technical Category Feel Approachable

The rebuilt site gives Superklick Velbus a catalogue that serves both browse-by-product and browse-by-solution buyers, with plain-language reliability messaging that makes a wired smart-home system feel simple rather than complicated.
